When did you first start playing music?
I always joke that I came out the womb singing :) It's kind of true, I come from a performance family. Both of my parents are HUGE music fans and musically inclined.
Who was your biggest influence ?
I always find this question VERY hard to answer because I didn't have just one influence. I had a variety of music always in my life. My mom owned a dance school in Santa Monica, CA when I was really young. She kept her classes really fun and hip by playing great records and I way always hiding somewhere in the studio watching the classes and listening to the soundtrack. My early influences passed down from my parents were The Beatles, Bob Marley, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, and Madonna to name a few. The first band to steal my heart was Pearl Jam (the "Ten" album is hard to top) however, since I laid my ears on them I have always loved Nirvana, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tori Amos,Tom Petty and No Doubt. My current favorites are Rise Against, A Day To Remember, The Arcade Fire, and I will admit that both Lady Gaga and Kesha are in my ipod and AMAZING to work out to. My Dad turned me on to Kesha LOL!
You helped create your own label. Tell me a little about the reasoning behind that.
I was tired of waiting for a magical sunbeam to come out of the sky. Our band works really hard and we have been able to accomplish a lot with the team we have around us. Creating a label was the obvious next step for us since we have already been self publishing for years. We have plans on expanding the label, bringing in other artists, and partnering with larger entities.
Whats your favorite part of the process? Writing new material or putting it out there for people to hear live?
I will admit, writing a new song is an AMAZING feeling. With that said, the recording process is very exciting because its the first time you really get to hear your ideas at their full potential. However, playing live is the little cherry on top for all your hard work. NOTHING feels better than a great show and nothing sounds better than hearing people sing along.
We have heard the new single, what can we expect from the rest of the new cd?
More ear crunching goodness! I am really proud of this collection of songs, I think its a really great representation of who we are as a group. We spent a good part of this last year really honing our sound and songwriting. The even better news is that we already have the next batch ready for recording, but we are going to push this EP for a little bit before we dive into that.
What needs to happen this year for you to consider it to be a success as a musician?
We are already working on Step 1, a National Tour. We leave this August for our first National Tour with our friends Stitched Up Heart (The Breaking Heartstrings Tour) and Gemini Syndrome (The Reinforcement Tour). We plan on this being the first of many tours to come. In addition we would like to have one of our songs in feature film, that is a big goal of mine. I think in order to consider ourselves a success we will have to continue doing A LOT, because that's what it is about, pressing forward and moving to new heights.
