Back in February of 2010 our Dad was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer. We really needed a distraction so we decided to start a band.
What bands do you all listen to when you're not making music?
One-Eyed Doll is a huge influence for us so we listen to them a lot. But we really listen to everything. We aren't like those teenagers who only like one type of music. We listen to stuff from Etta James, Nirvana, Patsy Cline, AC/DC, Lady GaGa, The Beatles and Johnny Cash.. To be a successful musician or songwriter you have to dip your toes in all kinds of music. Experience everything. Different styles of music make you feel a different way and therefor inspire you to write different types of songs. Mixing up the music you listen to is the most important thing.
How long have you all been playing your instruments?
Tayler: I've always wanted to play the drums but I didn't start until we started the band. So almost 1 year. I took a few lessons and did the rest on my own.
Kayla: I started singing and playing guitar when I was about 14. I also had about a month of guitar lessons and taught myself the rest. I did the same thing with the piano.
Describe the experience of making your first video.
It was a really surreal thing. Acting is harder than it looks! We've always wanted to have a music video and we are happy with the product. As the budget gets bigger the videos will get better but we are happy with it.
How many shows have you played live now?
That is a tough question. We never really kept track of that. We play shows all over the place and all the time. Our schedule tends to look something like this... One show on Friday, two on Saturday, a show on Sunday, out of town gig on Monday, sleep and practice on Tuesday, show on Wednesday, sleep and practice on Thursday. Then the cycle repeats in different places and different days. But we love it. We specifically asked our manager John Blomstrom to get us loads of dates. We love being on stage. You get to be bigger than you really are. Like we are still ourselves on stage but we just amplify it. You just go out there and leave it all on the stage. It's really emotional. And we love bringing the crowd into the show.
What is your ultimate goal for The Scars Heal In Time?
We wanna be "It". Aerosmith x10. And we aren't giving up until we get there.
